Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday he took a “balanced decision” to allow free worship at Jerusalem’s Aqsa Mosque during Ramadan, but access will be limited according to security needs.
In response to a question about the possibility of barring Israeli Muslims to enter the Aqsa Mosque, a prayer site in Jerusalem’s Old City.
“The Prime Minister has taken a balanced decision to allow freedom of worship within the security needs determined by professionals,” Netanyahu’s office said. And she gave no details.
Israel often sets limits on worshippers’ access to the site of prayer — for example, on an age basis — to avoid violence on the site, which is part of a sacred compound also in Judaism.
